Description Chancy (Chauncy, Chauncey) Clarence Townsend was born July 27, 1872 in Lower Aqua Fria, Arizona/died January 25, 1931 in Jerome. His obituary was written by Sharlot Hall. He was a resident of Jerome and also for some time, Prescott. He was a blacksmith and tool sharpener for the United Copper Company. Chancy married Emma Dendurant. They had one son, John Bennett Townsend who died at six in Jerome. John "Ben" Townsend, Jr. was born March 9, 1874 in Prescott/died November 3, 1925 in Jerome. The Townsend brothers were sons of the famous Indian fighter and scout, John B. Townsend, and Elizabeth (Vickers) Townsend Alridge.
